Titleist’s GT Driver Lineup Has Arrived — Here’s What’s Changed

After months of anticipation and teasing, Titleist has finally launched its new lineup of GT drivers, bringing the newest rendition of the most-played driver manufacturer on the PGA TOUR for the past five years to the hands of everyone from weekend warriors to the regular player.

The all-new Titleist GT drivers are the most advanced and best-performing drivers the company has ever launched, adding a new look, sound, and feel, and combining them with groundbreaking technology to bring the most-forgiving big stick to the brand yet.

Josh Talge, VP of Titleist Golf Club Marketing, said:

“When we release a new product, it has to outperform the previous line. For GT, it needed to be faster than TSR. It needed to be longer and straighter, and it had to sound better, look better and feel better. GT delivers across the board without compromise.”

Three new models dominate the GT lineup, each offering something to cater to any golfer’s game. The GT2 brings more forgiveness and speed with a higher-MOI setup. The GT3 is fine-tuned for speed and control, which maximizes distance and optimizes flight. The GT4 is the lowest-spin driver of the three and uses a 430cc driver head to eliminate excessive spin, delivering a fast, penetrating ball flight.

Stephanie Luttrell, Director, Titleist Metalwood Product Development, talked about Titleist’s new GT driver lineup:

“The GT line represents a monumental leap forward for Titleist driver design and engineering. The breakthroughs we made in material, construction, shaping, and design weren’t possible in prior generations. All the advancements found in GT are working in concert to create the highest-performing driver we have ever made.”

The Technology of the GT Drivers

Each GT driver features a Seamless Thermoform Crown that is comprised of a new Proprietary Matrix Polymer. The polymer allowed Titleist to offer a unique, ultra-light material that helped engineers place weight in optimal locations for each model. This helped Titleist design three different driver heads that each offer something different.

Stability is offered with the GT lineup’s Split Mass Construction. Not wanting to change much about the aesthetic, Titleist did not veer far off of the typical, classic look it has offered with its drivers for several years.

However, Titleist did adjust and redefine aerodynamics for the GT to increase clubhead speed by using a new Speed Ring and VFT face design, which offers forgiveness by helping increase ball speed for both on and off-center strikes.

Lutrell adds:

“In our aerodynamic research and engineering, we study head shaping, particularly crown and sole curvature, to optimize air flow connection, reducing turbulence and drag. The result is a significant gain in clubhead speed.”

Titleist GT2

The GT2 is likely what most players would benefit from in a driver — forgiveness and speed from a high-tech face. If you’re a player who struggles with consistent contact and could use more help from your clubs, the GT2 is likely what would benefit your game the most.

Still utilizing the GT lineup’s Speed Ring and Variable Face Technology along with maximum stability from GT2’s higher MOI design, this is truly a driver that can help even the most inconsistent players find more fairways more often.

GT2 Details and Specs:

  • High launch, low spin
  • Head: 460cc
  • Lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 (RH/LH)
  • Standard Length: 45.5”
  • Standard Lie: 58.5”
  • Featured Grip: Titleist Universal 360 Grip
  • Weight Options: 9 Gram (Nominal) w/ +6, +4, +2, -2, -4, -6
  • SureFit Hosel: Compatible with TSR, TSi, TS

Titleist GT3

The GT3 delivers not only extremely fast ball speeds but also adjustable sliders for optimal distance and ball flight control. The Adjustable CG Track is now positioned closer to the face compared to TSR3, and has five locations that cater to their strike location tendencies.

The 460cc head appears more compact and pear-shaped than the GT2, but it is the same size. However, compared to TSR3, the GT3 has more aerodynamics, which translates to better clubhead speeds and more distance.

GT3 Details and Specs:

  • High launch, lower spin
  • Head: 460cc
  • Lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 (RH/LH)
  • Standard Length: 45.5”
  • Standard Lie: 58.5”
  • Featured Grip: Titleist Universal 360 Grip
  • Weight Options: 8 Gram (Nominal) w/ +6, +4, +2, -2, -4
  • SureFit Hosel: Compatible with TSR, TSi, TS

Titleist GT4

The GT4 is truly the driver for the better player. Designed to eliminate sub-optimal spin rates, the GT4 creates a penetrating, low, and efficient ball flight. There are also dual-spin control settings that allow golfers to choose between more aggressive spin reduction or a more balanced and stable setting allowing for moderate spin.

This is accomplished by manipulating a heaver, 11-gram weight and a lighter 3-gram weight in between two positions. It also is just 430cc, smaller than the 460cc heads of the GT2 and GT3.

GT4 Details and Specs:

  • Mid-launch, lowest spin
  • Head: 430cc
  • Lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 (RH/LH)
  • Standard Length: 45.5”
  • Standard Lie: 58.5”
  • Featured Grip: Titleist Universal 360 Grip
  • Weight Options: 11 Gram (FWD) / 3 Gram (AFT)
  • SureFit Hosel: Compatible with TSR, TSi, TS

What the Pros are Saying about the GT Drivers

Will Zalatoris:

“Immediately I’m picking up a mile and a half of ball speed. That equates to about another six-ish, seven yards of carry. The feel is amazing. That’s probably the biggest thing that I’ve really picked up. And the first time I hit it, it was just this euphoric, really solid, really fast off the face. I always love kind of the dampened sound.”

Billy Horschel:

“It feels more solid to me. I know where the ball is better…Even the ones I missed, the dispersion is still tight. We haven’t lost anything. It’s faster, spin rate is more consistent.”

Max Homa:

“I’ve got the GT3, and I was beyond stoked to get this because J.J. [Van Wezenbeeck, Titleist’s Senior Director of Club Promotions] told me it was basically built for everything I like in a driver. The big benefit to me is that this driver likes to go higher with a little less spin. I struggle when I try to get height. I need to feel like I’m swinging and hitting a lower drive. [With GT] you can kind of play for a low one and it’s going to launch up in the air with very little spin.”

Cameron Young:

“There’s something rewarding about the sound it makes when you hit one in the middle. It just feels like it’s coming off really fast, which is a really rewarding kind of feeling.”
