Tony Romo Obliterates Local Tournament with a Nine-Stroke Victory
It has been the year of the athlete on the professional golf circuit, with many stars of other leagues teeing it up professionally. And now one of the most familiar names is now starting to show why he was invited to play on the big league tour.
Tony Romo and golf have been linked more this year more than his NFL playing career, as he has been a broadcaster and competitor on the links.
Earlier this season Romo participated in the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship but disappointed, shooting a 77-82 the first two days to miss the cut. But it seems like Tony has found his stroke again, however, and he just dominated a tournament.
After the flop on the PGA TOUR, Romo has taken his game back to the local level, and he is wiping the floor with the amateurs. He competed this weekend at the Racine Tri-Course Amateur Championship in Texas, destroying the competition in route to a nine-stroke victory.
This is the second time Tony has won the event, with his first win coming way back in 2004.

The win will do wonders to boost Romo’s confidence after the bad showing in the Dominican Republic and a poor effort in some U.S. Open qualifiers a few weeks ago. Certainly playing on his home turf helped out, especially in a tournament that he had won before, but it also looks like his fundamentals are shaping up too.
Since the beginning of the year, Romo has been working with golf coaches Chris O’Connell and Andy Traynor of Plane Truth Golf to improve his game and apparently he’s now starting to feel comfortable.
“It’s starting to come together and it’s feeling more natural now,” Romo said. Hopefully, he can take that comfort and have a strong finish to the golf season.
Maybe if his game really is as strong as it’s ever been, Romo can get another shot on the PGA TOUR. If not, he can keep working on his game for another decade, then try out the Senior Tour.
