TRENDING: adidas Golf Releases the ZG21, Golf’s Lightest Spiked Shoe
adidas Golf is firing on all cylinders right now. Dustin Johnson is the defending Masters Champion, Tyrrell Hatton just won the Abu Dhabi Championship and Jessica Korda won the Diamond Resorts Tournament Of Champions.
So to help propel adidas Golf and its athletes in front of competition in 2021, adidas is releasing the ZG21 and ushering in a new era in lightweight golf footwear.

It’s no secret that ground forces (i.e., the ability to use your lower body and the ground to generate force and club head speed) and, thus, modern golfers are demanding more than ever from their footwear. In addition to being comfortable, today’s golf shoes have to be able to provide a performance benefit that helps, instead of hinders, golfers play their best.
And while spikeless shoes have become very popular in recent years, including adidas’ own CodeChaos lineup, spiked shoes are capable of providing more traction and, thus, performance.

The ZG21 delivers exactly what tour professionals and amateur golfers have been craving: a high-performance spiked shoe that was lightweight and extremely comfortable.
The ZG21 is the result of nearly 2 years of research and development and incorporates a variety of adidas’ premium technologies that result in a shoe that weighs 20% less than comparable adidas spiked models and significantly lighter than many competitor models. However, being lightweight isn’t enough by itself:

“ZG21 is truly a breakthrough feat in spiked performance,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf. “We were able to combine the latest and greatest materials, innovations, and manufacturing processes without sacrificing anything. It changes the game for those who love spiked footwear.”
In addition to adidas’ proven BOOST cushioning, the ZG21’s hallmark features include:
- LIGHTSTRIKE – A first in golf, this cushioning is 40% lighter than any EVA foam in the market while also providing shock absorption and quick recovery, making it an ideal material for golf where stability through the swing is critical. LIGHTSTRIKE has been used in other categories like basketball and tennis, and when coupled with our BOOST cushioning, provides golfers with lightweight comfort and stability during the entire round.
- SPRINTSKIN – A lightweight and waterproof (1-year warranty) four-layer upper that combines innovative textiles and polyurethane films for breakthrough performance.
- ULTRA-LIGHT STABILITY FIN – A new lightweight and durable TPU insert positioned in the lateral sidewall that offers increased lateral stability and a locked-in feel throughout the swing.
- SWINGPLANE TRACTION – Inspired by heat-map studies and running from heel to toe, adidas strategically identified the areas that would provide the maximum amount of traction in the areas it’s needed most.
The new ZG21 outsole features an ultra-thin TPU construction, 6 strategically placed cleats and a new crescent moon-shaped secondary lug pattern to optimize grip, support and performance while ultimately reducing weight.
The ZG21 will come in 4 models: (1) Men’s Laced, (2) Men’s BOA, (3) Women’s BOA and (4) Junior’s Laced.

adidas’ BOA, laceless system has become an industry and, in the ZG21, features a redesigned, Y-strap design that wraps around the foot to create a secure fit over the instep, while also providing flexibility and freedom in the toe box. The Men’s ZG21 BOA is also the first golf shoe on the market to feature Li2 – a sleek, low-profile dial platform that modulates tension when and where needed with enhanced speed and effortless execution.
All ZG21 models will be available exclusively on adidas.com and the adidas app starting TODAY, and at select retailer partners worldwide beginning Feb. 1, 2021 .
