TRENDING: Sergio Garcia Throws His Driver At Caddie

Just when you thought that the Open Championship was over and there was no more news to be made, Sergio Garcia has made it relevant again. And he’s doing so not in a positive way at all.

Royal Portrush was an opportunity for Sergio to use his experience in links golf to try and capture his second career major and he started off well, only a few shots off of the lead on Thursday and then one of the few still under par heading into the final round on Sunday. That all collapsed, however, as he shot +7 during the final round.

While the finish wasn’t what Sergio was hoping for, one could say that it was a solid showing from the Spaniard. But Sergio disagreed. The nasty weather and his bad play must have made him incredibly frustrated, as it did for a lot of golfers, and as we know, Sergio isn’t the best at containing his emotions. That was on full display at the fifth hole during his final round.

That hole ended up being an adventure for Sergio, as he completed it with a double bogey but the story comes from what he did in the tee box. Garcia hit a big hook and didn’t even watch where it ended up. Instead, he picked up his tee and then suddenly whipped his driver towards his caddie, making a sound that could be heard on TV. It’s unknown why Sergio took out his anger on his caddie but it’s a bush league move nonetheless.

Here is a close up:

The sad part is that this isn’t the first time that Sergio has exploded like this. Sure, some other players let their emotions get the better of them, Henrik Stenson in particular when he snapped his club, but no one seemed to get physical with anyone else. Garcia has already been shamed for scuffing greens earlier this year and has a bad reputation as a hothead so this video isn’t likely to help change that.

It’s a shame to see such well-known players illustrate this behavior, especially on such a large stage. Hopefully, Sergio will eventually learn to keep his cool but I have a feeling this isn’t the last time he’ll make headlines for a temper tantrum in the future.
