The Amount of Money These Golfers Earn Per Shot is Mind Blowing
We are constantly reminded while watching golf how much the top earners make on Tour. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard a broadcaster reference “The Money List”, especially as it gets later in the year.
To put it mildly, the best golfers in the world make a lot of money. And that doesn’t even take into account their multiple endorsement deals.
We are also constantly reminded of who is on top of the “Official World Golf Rankings” or “OWGR” (if you really want to be annoying).
But those two lists weren’t good enough for the crazy kids over at NoobNorm.com. Instead, they created a list of the top money winners, per shot, among the Top 10 in OWGR.

You can check out the full list here.
You know the names well: DJ, Spieth, JT, Fowler, Rory, Rose, and Stenson to name a few.
And they also provided us with one bonus name who currently isn’t in the top 10 to provide yet another way to establish just how dominating said golfer was at one point.
Golf is one of those unique games where the less you do during a round, the better you actually score. As we all know, the point of a round of golf is to take the minimum amount of strokes possible. So, basically, when it comes to this list, the less one does, the more potential for higher payouts.
Let’s start with the current World Number One: Dustin Johnson.
Over his career (2007 – Present), he’s averaged $859 per shot. 2017 was his most successful season to-date, winning four times in 20 starts. That works out to a staggering $1,696 earned per shot. But DJ has been pretty good over the past three seasons. In fact, since 2015, he’s earned over $20 million dollars while taking just over 16,000 swings of a club. That works out to $1,461 per shot.

Let’s move on to Mr. Spieth. Over the course of his young career, Jordan has taken 31,911 shots and earned just over $35 million. In other words, the 24-year-old has averaged $1,104 dollars per shot since turning pro.
At 22 years old, during his dominant 2015 season in which he started the season with one win and finished the season with six, including two majors, he averaged almost $2,000 dollars a shot!

The only other top ten player that can compare to Spieth’s 2015 is Rory McIlroy. Rory has averaged (averaged!) $1,073 per shot throughout his career. That includes his 2012 season, that included winning the PGA Championship by eight strokes, where he averaged $2,140 per shot.
But all of these pale in comparison to our Top 10 outsider, Tiger Woods. Prepare yourself for some absurd numbers.
Tiger has been playing professional golf since 1996. The past three years have obviously been rough for Woods. Since 2015, Tiger has averaged just $116 per shot. I don’t say this to disparage him in any way. Instead, I point this out because the past few years have obviously dragged down his career average.
And his career average per shot is still $1,282. So ridiculous.

But perhaps the most ridiculous of numbers is his 2008 average. He played in six tournaments, winning four of them and earned himself $5,775,000. He took 1,378 strokes that year. Which equates to getting paid $4,191 per shot.
The best golfer to have ever lived has averaged over $2,000 per shot five times in his career. Over $1,000 per shot 12 times in his career. In fact, from 2002 to 2009, he never made less than $1,000 per shot.
