We recently had the pleasure of reviewing some golf threads from Antigua.

In case you’ve never heard of these guys, The Antigua Group, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading designers and marketers of lifestyle and golf apparel under their distinguished Antigua brand.

The Antigua Spring 2015 Men’s Golf Performance Collection just launched its Desert Dry Performance Cotton (D2PC) this spring and that’s exactly what we’ll be reviewing here.

Antigua Golf Shirts Review

“The Spring 2015 Men’s Golf Outerwear Collection includes this amazing new fabric,” says Ron McPherson, President and CEO of Antigua.

“It combines the moisture-wicking features of our proprietary Desert Dry moisture management technology with the natural fibers of cotton, to create a performance product that offers the best of both.” – Ron McPherson

This season’s introduction of Antigua’s Desert Dry Performance Cotton is a great addition to the Spring 2015 Performance 72 golf collection.  The D2PC styles were first offered in January 2015 and share the same color palette that’s carried throughout both the men’s and women’s spring 2015 fashion collections.

The Antigua Golf Shirt

I received two different shirts from Antigua to test and review.  One was the Reserve and the other was labeled, the “Blaze.”  Both shirts have an incredible feel and are very light weight.  The color patterns immediately struck me as they were uniquely created with a decorative and flashy stitching design.

I tried them on and wore them both around the house, lounged around in them, wore them to the driving range, and even did a few jumping jacks and sprints to sweat and stretch them a little.

Let me break down the shirts separately…

The Reserve

The Reserve polo is made from 60% cotton and 40% polyester Desert Dry moisture wicking material.  This solid piece dye jersey knit short-sleeve polo has a unique stitch pattern design known as their contrast three needle topstitch detail—an aesthetic which caught my eye immediately upon opening the package.

The shirt comes with a open cuff ‘self-fabric collar” and the Antigua triangle logo and name patched on the left sleeve.

The Reserve is available in just about every size imaginable (from X2 to 3XL) and the company provides a nice range of nine different color patterns to choose from—so if you like the fit and feel you can grab a few different colors for your closet.

The Blaze

Like the Reserve polo, the Blaze is also made from 60% cotton and 40% polyester Desert DryTM moisture wicking material. The shirt comes in solid colors with a stripe knit design running horizontally across the shirt. The Blaze also features an open cuff and self-fabric collar with a button placket—plus of course the Antigua triangle logo and name is patched on the left sleeve.

The Fit

We always tout the importance of comfort during a five hour round of golf.  It’s important to stress that I really enjoyed the way these shirts fit against my body—they weren’t loose or snug and they didn’t itch or stretch.

The overall softness of the cotton in combination with the stretchiness of the polyester makes for a great fitting golf shirt.

The Feel

Nowadays we see all of the major brands pushing their polyester/mesh golf shirts and eliminating cotton from their lines.  Cotton absorbs moisture quickly, but doesn’t allow the moisture to travel across the cotton knitted fibers for quicker release like synthetic micro-filament fibers.  Antigua has successfully engineered fabrics utilizing synthetic micro-filament yarns and has blended them with fine natural cotton fibers.  Their D2PC offers the look and casual comfort of cotton while maximizing the key ingredients of a performance fabric.

Remember, the elements can throw many different curve balls at you like humidity, rain, moisture, wind, etc. so if you want to be comfortable out there it’s wise to choose a fabric that wicks away moisture, and these Antigua shirts do exactly that.

The Cost

The price varies based on what type of shirt and where you purchase your Antigua gear.  Like just about everything else on Earth, you can purchase these (and other) Antigua golf shirts on Amazon for anywhere from $30-$100 depending on the size, style, and availability—you can even score a team logo on some of them!

Of course you can also pick up your Antigua gear directly from their website.  The shirts there range from $54.95-$64.95 and free ground shipping is provided on most items.  Also, if you’re lucky enough to have a Kohl’s department store near you, you can pick up some Antigua gear there as well.
