The USGA has announced the media rights for the US Open have been transferred to NBC from FOX.

The deal between FOX and the USGA was originally signed in 2013 for $1.1 billion and 12 years of coverage, starting in 2015. The date of the tournament has been moved to September, amid the COVID-19 outbreak, which made broadcasting the event tricky for FOX. They are already scheduled to televise Football, Baseball, and College Football, so adding golf into the equation was going to be difficult.

Mike Davis, CEO of the USGA, stated how excited he is to be working with NBC again for the US Open (NBC televised the tournament from 1995-2014).

“Partnering with NBC Universal, including Golf Channel, gives us an unparalleled opportunity to connect and engage with the core golf audience more directly and routinely, and as a non-profit, to continue to have a significant  and lasting  impact on the game.”

FOX annually received criticism about their broadcast, due to the fact that they had no previous experience with the game of golf. This is a change I’m sure golf fans are happy about.

NBCUniversal now has the rights to the US Open until 2026.

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
