While many of us have spent our recent weeks in quarantine, waiting for regular golf outings to become a staple of the summer again, some people have been hard at work making new innovations. One of these new inventions could help people play golf, even during a quarantine like this.

If you remember all the way back to when the COVID-19 quarantines started in the U.S., many of the medical experts stated that golf would be a great way to continue getting exercise while also following social distancing guidelines. But even with the blessing of medical experts, the idea of playing golf while practicing social distancing still presented many challenges. The biggest issues involved the holes and carts.

One of the issues that posed conflict was the contact players would have with each other when grabbing their ball out of the hole. That problem was quickly solved by elevating holes or using a lever system to lift a ball out of the hole. Golf carts remained an issue on most courses as only one rider was allowed per cart and courses did not have enough carts to accommodate their typical player load per day.

One Canadian company thinks they found the solution to that problem, allowing two riders in one cart while maintaining social distancing. The invention is The Driver Divider, created by Shaver Industries. The Divider is basically a curtain that goes up in the middle of the cart to separate the driver and passenger. I know what you’re thinking, it’s just a curtain. But this curtain is made of industrial-strength plastic that is guaranteed to contain the spread of germs.

Even though it sounds like a lot, the installation of the divider is actually super easy and only uses velcro and bungee cords. Matt Gazzola, general manager at Shaver Industries, explained “It’s a very straight forward installation. We used adhesive-back hooks, S-Hooks, Velcro and bungees, to basically not have to fasten it into the cart. So, the installation takes all of five minutes.”

While the pandemic is seemingly starting to decline each day, this little invention has been selling well in Ontario since it hit the market. And if global pandemics continue to threaten us in future years, this could be a unique modification that can help you stay sane by hitting the links whenever you like.
