Get Ready For The Largest Ryder Cup First Tee Ever

As if playing in the Ryder Cup and representing your team isn’t stress enough, heading up to the first tee for your first shot will definitely get your nerves going. And this year, Paris is taking it to a whole new level.

The First Tee at the Ryder Cup is one of the most unique parts of golf as we know it. No other tournament or match play event has a cohort of fans that make crazy noise when players tee off to begin their round. Sometimes, the Ryder Cup even has players come out of a tunnel onto the tee as if they’re wrestling superstars coming out for a big fight. Le Golf National won’t have a tunnel but they’ll have a ton of fans ready to go nuts on Friday.

The European Tour, maybe hoping to drive out as many European fans as possible after losing to the United States two years ago, has built a gigantic grandstand on the first tee that will sit up to 6,900 patrons when the tournament kicks off. This grandstand is going to create the effect of a team coming out for the Super Bowl more than hitting a drive down the fairway.

If you’re wondering what the big deal is, it’s that the fans are going to be loud and amped up for the first Ryder Cup to be played on European soil in four years. Compare that to what the PGA TOUR provided for Hazeltine back in 2016, their grandstand for the first tee only seated 1,668 fans. So the acoustics are going to be amplified three times if not more.

And that’s not even considering the fans that will be standing around the first tee. Taking all of that into account, we’re likely to see upwards of 15,000 screaming fans around the tee when the first group takes the first tee. Tiger Woods said that he felt a shaking during the first tee back in 2010 so this year may result in a mini-earthquake. And that’s just a conservative estimate as the European Tour is expecting just over a quarter million fans to attend the event throughout its duration.

The stakes are incredibly high for this Ryder Cup with the United States looking to repeat as champions and will be sure to drive out Europeans by force. Hopefully, no players won’t get too caught up in the spotlight when they tee off and go on to have a strong, competitive round.
