Amongst the many golf-inspired video games out there is one diamond in the rough (literally), as only one truly encapsulates a realistic, simulator-like experience from the comfort of your own home without having to actually shell out thousands for the real thing.

GOLF+ is, of course, what we’re talking about, and the game’s addition of The Open Championship’s 2025 venue of Royal Portrush has officially made it into the game, bringing one of golf’s premier venues to your headset:

GOLF+ VR Adds 2025 Open Championship Venue: Royal Portrush

Redesigned into its current form in 1929, Royal Portrush was originally the Dunluce Links, but Harry Colt’s rendition of what has become known as one of the best links courses in the world brought new life to this track that has rounds dating back to 1888.

The 7,333-yard course has hosted numerous Championships, including two Opens, three Amateurs, nine Ladies’ Amateurs, six Senior Opens, and four Irish Opens.

It has undergone several renovations in the past few decades, most notably ahead of The Open’s return to the venue in 2019. The changes helped accommodate modern tournament play where the world’s best are hitting it farther and straighter than ever before.

Notable Holes

GOLF+ lists several holes as the most notable on Royal Portrush, so be sure to play your best on these three, and share your scores with us!

Hole 5 – White Rocks (Par 4, 374 yards)

A breathtaking risk-reward hole that plays along the cliffs, where any errant shot can find the beach far below.

Hole 16 – Calamity Corner (Par 3, 236 yards)

One of the most famous par-3s in golf, featuring an all-carry shot over a deep chasm to a green that slopes away from players.

Hole 17 – Purgatory (Par 4, 408 yards)

A tough closing stretch begins here, with a demanding tee shot and a well-protected green.
