Grande Dunes – The Most Underrated Golf Course in Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is one of the U.S.’s most sought-after destinations for a golf getaway. The area boasts 90 courses, ranging from championship courses to world-class mini-golf, in what is widely considered the “Golf Capital of the World.”
One of the most unique, challenging, and eye-capturing courses is that of Grande Dunes, a Par 72 course that sits at 7,578 yards from the tips and 7,183 yards from the black tees. With a slope rating of 145 from its competition tee boxes, it is sure to challenge anyone’s game.
Designed by the Roger Rulewich Group, Grande Dunes is ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” and recently underwent a major renovation that includes new Bermuda grass greens and a complete overhaul of every bunker on the course. This renovation helped it become recognized as the “National Golf Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association of America.

It was also voted the best golf course in Myrtle Beach, which is quite a nod considering the extensive lineup of tracks in the area.
After a round of golf, players can choose to wine and dine at the 10,000-square-foot Mediterranean-styled clubhouse that features a full-service golf shop, locker rooms for men and women, private dining, and a veranda that overlooks the 9th and 18th greens.
It also features spectacular views of the Intercoastal Waterway, Grande Dunes Marina, and the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes, a four-diamond resort.
As previously mentioned, the course underwent a major overhaul, which includes:
- Grande Dunes, which restored its greens to their original specifications, reclaimed nearly 40,000 square feet of putting surface, an increase of 33 percent.
- The bunkers at Grande Dunes also had their original shape and contours restored, significantly improving their visual appeal.
- Additionally, the installation of new Capillary Concrete bunker liners has dramatically improved the conditioning and playability of the bunkers.
- Grande Dunes collectively expanded its fairways by eight acres, giving players few excuses to miss some of Myrtle Beach’s largest fairways.
- The improvements to the course are complemented by the overhaul of the Grande Dunes clubhouse, which now includes Terrazza 19, a new restaurant, dramatically expanded outdoor seating, and a larger pro shop.
Lined by the shores of Myrtle Beach, Grande Dunes offers a short commute from the course to the water, so it’s the perfect way to cool down after a long day on the links.

Located just 28 minutes from Myrtle Beach International Airport, Grande Dunes has a variety of lodging options nearby, of course, as the region is one of the most popular vacation spots in the U.S.
Apart from the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes, there are a handful of other options within a few miles of the course, including hotels from Marriot, Hilton, Best Western, and other notable accommodations that will allow for a comfortable, yet affordable stay during a golf weekend or family vacation.
Tee time rates range from $71 to $116, depending on the time of day. With the new course improvements and stunning hole layouts and views, it is well worth it to cough up the cash for one of the more memorable trips of a Myrtle Beach golf outing.
