ICONIC HOLES: The 8th At Majlis Dubai

The view from the tee box on the 8th hole at the Majlis course is one to behold — staring into the Dubai city skyline at over 200 skyscrapers.

Like the Swilcan Bridge on the 18th at the Old Course in St. Andrews, or the fabulous par 3 7th at Pebble Beach, the 8th hole at Majlis has become a tourist attraction in its own right.

As one of two courses at the Emirates Golf Club and home to the Dubai Desert Classic since 1989, the Majlis course and the 8th tee box have seen some of the game’s greats take advantage of the epic photo opportunity.

The hole itself is a tough, dog leg right, 459 yard par 4. After teeing off and doing your best to find the fairway, the second shot is uphill to a green protected all around the back by bunkers.

It wasn’t always an iconic hole. The course was here before many of the skyscrapers and most of the city itself.

Designed by Karl Litten and opened in 1989 as the first all grass championship course in Dubai, the Emirates Golf Club has seen the city of Dubai grow up around it.

Check out this epic photo which contrasts the Emirates Golf Club and the city between 1990 and 2016.

As time has passed, the 8th at Majlis has become one of the most iconic holes in the Middle East and the world.
