Is The NeuraPutt The Next Great Training Aid?

Isn’t it funny that you can get that little white ball to travel 500 yards in just two or three shots but it takes 2-3 to get it to go in from 15 feet? I saw that on a meme and it’s painfully true. For whatever reason when we are on the green that space between the ears starts going a mile a minute and we can’t seem to shake the nerves. With all the training aids out there, the NeuraPutt might be one of the best to help solve the putting problems so many of us face.

Unboxing The NeuraPutt Training Aid!

No Description

What is the NeuraPutt?

This training aid is essentially the world famous gate drill in the comfort of your home. With two versions to choose from (Indoor and Outdoor) it’s up to you to decide how you practice. Both versions work the same way with the only difference being the indoor version has velcro on the bottom so it stays put on a putting mat. The outdoor version has small pegs on the bottom so it can grip into the ground while sitting over the cup.

The bumpers are easily attached based on your skill level. The bounce back rubber band slides into place with ease. The hardest part of the setup is attaching the white circle on the bottom to simulate a putting cup. Anyone can have the NeuraPutt setup and ready to use in under a minute. Take down is quick with the most difficult part being the repacking into the case it came in.

How well does it work?

The indoor model is the one I used more because it was easier to work into my practice routine. I don’t have a backyard putting green and I only make it to the range once a week at best. However I made it point to test it out and the small grip pegs do the trick. I set it up at random spots on the putting green and no matter how hard I drilled the bumpers, it never moved.

I am a big fan of training aids that drive a sense of competition within yourself. What’s even better is when a non golfer in your household wants to try it. That’s when you know you have something useful. I’ve seen it with other training aids in the past and I saw it here as well. After several putts on the beginner level the user will start to find the right tempo and stroke to get the ball to travel through the gate. As your confidence increases, so will the difficulty with the bumpers. The opening will get smaller and smaller. When you get to the course the hole will seem like a dinner plate. More made putts and lower scores will follow quickly with regular use of the NeuraPutt.

Improvement Areas

To my knowledge this is the first generation of the NeuraPutt that has come to market. It’s a solid concept and a good design but it does have a few areas that need work. Nothing that can’t be improved on or that should prevent you from wanting to try it out.

  1. The packaging says you can reuse it as a carrying case. It’s technically true but it’s not easy. The flaps pop open easily and the individual bumpers tend to roll around when you bring it to a putting green. You’re better off adding everything into a small bag for transportation instead of the manufacturer packaging.
  2. The white ring on the bottom doesn’t attach very well. This ring simulates the putting cup. It’s helpful to train your eyes on the target area but tends to detach itself during setup. Once it’s in place it stays there but it’s kind of annoying. Sometimes I didn’t even use it. This won’t hinder your practice in anyway but it’s a minor imperfection.
  3. The putting mat it comes with isn’t great. If you don’t have a putting mat at home to use then this will work for you but it’s not the best quality. It’s great that they send it out but I think it should be left out all together.
  4. The Velcro bottom to the indoor model can come off. After repeated used the glue can come lose when taking it off the putting mat. I used a different putting mat than what was provided for my practice so this could be the issue.

Is it worth trying?

Absolutely. It works exactly like you would expect it to. When I went to the course after practicing with this device the hole seemed massive to me. I was confident that I’d make putt before I hit it.  I even went full “Spieth” on a friend during match play.

The NeuraPutt works. If you use it, you will learn to focus on a smaller target. That pays off greatly. Basically it’s aim small, miss small.  I’ve made a lot more putts and my makes inside 6 feet have also increased. I’m holing 81% of my putts within two attempts on the green. I am impressed with this tool and it’s worth trying for anyone who wants to improve their putting. The NeuraPutt is next great training aid to hit the golf space. Plain and simple.
