Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.  And there’s been plenty of smoke surrounding the Super Golf League in the past few weeks.

Indeed, just earlier this month, rumors broke that Bryson was offered an estimated $135 million to join the SGL, and Poulter being offered $25 million to jump ship too.

And despite Bryson denying the rumors, they’re not letting up.

Rumors, from Jim McLean no less, are breaking today that it is all but certain Bryson will be jumping ship from the PGA TOUR to the Super Golf League.  And Bryson won’t be going alone.

The story is coupled with comments from PGA TOUR golfer Kramer Hickok stating that as many as 17 other golfers joining Bryson in the SGL.

Hickok further commented on what the SGL will look like, stating:

“You’re only gonna have 12-14 events. Those events are gonna have purses. You’re not going to have to deal with missing a cut anymore; there’s only going to be 40 players. And 10 of those 14 events will be in the States. Signing bonuses, huge, huge purses—it’s going to be very appealing for some of these guys. Yeah you’ll see some big names for sure.”

Hickok further stated that he’s heard the SGL is targeting a June start.

Given Hickok’s comments, you have to wonder if Bryson’s actually been nursing an injury that’s forced him to withdraw through a few recent events, including the upcoming Genesis Invitational, so he can continue negotiations with the SGL before making everything official. But if the rumors turn out to be true, it is not hard to see how many golfers will rush at an opportunity to make more money on a smaller platform where the odds of being No. 1 any given weekend will be significantly greater.

In addition to Bryson, McLean has commented on Phil Mickelson being another golfer to join the SGL.  If a super likable player like Phil were to join, it will be very interesting to see if the PGA TOUR actually holds the line on its harsh anti-SGL stance and potentially impose a lifetime ban against the so-called defectors.

Regardless, if Hickok’s claim that the SGL will be starting up in June, we won’t have to wait too much longer for the official news.
