Nike Announces the PGA Safari Pack for Bethpage

Today Nike announced the release of the “Nike Golf Safari Pack” of golf shoes to be available on May 16th, or day one of the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black Golf Course.

The shoes will be available online at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy.

The Safari Pack is made up of three different styles of shoes, the Air Max 1 G, the Roshe G Tour, and the Air Zoom Victory Tour.

As I’m sure every golf fan is aware of by now, Bethpage Black is most known for being one of the very toughest golf courses in the world. And I’m also sure you know by now, there are several signs scattered around the golf course reminding participants of that very fact.

None more famous than this one as you approach the first tee.

The shoes are inspired by both this famous warning sign and it’s colors as well as the course’s nickname, “Black Leopard”, given to Bethpage Black by it’s architect, A.W. Tillinghast.

All three also have a subtle nod to New York state parks on the heel in the form of the state parks signature leaf emblem.

So who will be wearing what next week? Keep an eye on Jason Day and Tony Finau in the Air Max version, Tommy Fleetwood in the Roshe style, and Rory McIlroy in the Victory Tours.

And maybe me, too, if I can ever decide which one’s to purchase.
