Red Sox Owners Buy Boston Team for Tiger Woods’ Golf League
Lost amid the news of the PGA Tour joining forces with the DP World Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is the TGL—the new made-for-primetime golf league developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that will be debuting in January.
While it’s been reported that some aspect of LIV Golf’s team competition will continue in the newly formed league, it appears to be full steam ahead for this version of team golf as well—which was originally developed as an answer to LIV.
Fenway Sports Group, owners of the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Premier League’s Liverpool Football Club, will own a team representing Boston in the new league.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new golf league — TGL — has now named two of its six founding teams:

“We are excited for this new journey,” Henry and Werner said in an announcement Monday. “Through this new, tech-focused version of the game, New England sports fans will soon have a team of world-class PGA Tour players to cheer for and redefine for this community what it means to play the game in the modern era.”
It’s the second of six teams available to have an owner. It was recently announced that a group led by Serena and Venus Williams will own a Los Angeles franchise.

Based off this list, potential teams could be formed with ties to Atlanta, Minnesota, and/or Orlando, Florida.
The six teams will consist of three PGA Tour pros each. Along with Woods and McIlroy, golfers who have committed to the series include Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Adam Scott.
They will compete in match play-style tournaments in an arena in Palm Beach, Florida, that is being specifically constructed for the series. It will mix simulator play with some aspects of live golf.
