REVIEW: Is Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red Golf Polo Worth the Hype?

An iconic name. A legendary player behind it. A premium price tag. Is the Sun Day Red lineup of golf polos worth the hype and, better yet, the money?

Two weeks ago, we reported on Sun Day Red, Tiger Woods’ brand, and how it worked to create the best golf polo ever. I talked to members of the Sun Day Red team, including Senior Creative Director Cáje Moye and President Brad Blankenship, who said that Tiger was involved in every part of the polo’s development, from the buttons to the length of the tail.

But was it really as good as the team told me it would be? Was it a polo that I would recommend to my friends? Is it something that is worth $115?

I aim to answer all of those questions in this article.

Is the Heritage Polo as Good as Sun Day Red Said It Would Be?

In short, yes.

I have a lot of different golf polos from a lot of different companies. While I like the price point of Nike, the feel of lululemon, the quality of FootJoy, and the fit of Macade, the Sun Day Red polo has a lot of what I like.

It just doesn’t have the price point of Nike. It feels better than lulu, the quality is comparable to FootJoy, and the fit is different than Macade, but I still like it.

I loved the presentation of the Sun Day Red packaging, which came with the polo, some tees, and a note from Tiger.

The SDR Heritage polo is very lightweight. It doesn’t feel like a cheap, lightweight material. It feels like a polo that is worth $115. It is breathable, it is cool, and it is soft, three things that make a great polo.

I like the material more than any polo that I have; the only thing I might like more is the lululemon ShowZero polo. However, that one has its drawbacks, as after about ten wears, it has lost its clean-cut appearance, something Tiger specifically wanted to protect it against as things tend to look worn after a few washes.

I have only washed the SDR polo twice, but it still looks as good as it did when I took it out of the bag.

Fit and Feel

It’s not a slim-fit polo, at least not for me. I wear an XL, I have been in the gym for a long time now, and I wear an XL t-shirt, but this was a very relaxed fit.

For reference, it’s not quite as thick as a traditional FootJoy polo. Perhaps it is a little more lightweight and doesn’t have as long of sleeves.

These details were specific requests of Tiger, who wanted a clean, non-oversized polo

These are two big pluses I think the SDR polo has over FootJoy, which tends to be at the top of my list if I have a choice.

Is it Worth $115?

This is a complex question. If you’re willing to spend good money on your golf wardrobe, then of course, this is worth it: it’s not unreasonably expensive compared to comparable options, it fits well, it is a quality shirt, and it looks great.

If you’re looking for a bargain, then no, but what polo of the companies I listed previously would be?

I think I have probably twenty golf polos in my closet, I wear maybe five of them on a regular basis. This will be one of them.

I think the SDR lineup is one that has a lot of potential, truly because of the name behind it and the quality.

SDR just released more colors last week as well, and you can pick up any of the Heritage polos here.
