Scottie Scheffler Gets Last Laugh with Hilarious Burn of City of Louisville

Scottie Scheffler wins…again.

But this time, it’s not a tournament. It’s not even something competitive. Instead, it’s the dilemma with the City of Louisville and the Louisville Metro Police Department, and he did it all by saying one word: Louisville.

Maybe it’s not the word he said, but how he said it. Scheffler knew exactly how to get under the skin of the City and its people, and after a short battle with it after his arrest in late May at the PGA Championship, the best golfer in the world is likely ready to be done with the whole thing.

But it did not stop him from getting one last dig in. After being arrested for “dragging” Detective Bryan Gillis, a claim that was disproven after the City’s release of security camera footage, Scheffler was charged with four crimes, one of which was a felony.

Louisville’s Prosecutors dropped the case last week, and Scheffler admitted he has no bad blood toward the City despite the added stress and bad publicity they might have caused him.

In typical Scottie Scheffler fashion, he got the last laugh:

Pronunciation of the word “Louisville” is absolutely something that locals might get annoyed with. The ‘S’ in Louisville is silent, and Scheffler knows that. But he did not take any opportunity to pronounce the City’s name correctly after his short legal battle with the Metro Police Department.

I’m just 15 minutes from Lancaster, the same City where the U.S. Women’s Open was this past weekend. It’s pronounced “Lancaster,” all in one go. But it does not stop people from saying “Lan-Caster,” which is one way to really get on my, and a lot of others’, nerves.

Scheffler knew what he was doing here and ultimately, it’s just the last playful jab in what has likely been one of the more difficult times in his life. However, a newborn, a wife, millions in winnings, and a lot of victories this year have all kept that stereotypical smile on Scottie’s face.

But it doesn’t mean he hasn’t struggled with what happened. Yesterday, at his press conference at The Memorial, he discussed some of the emotions he’s gone through:

“I think that’s part of the recovery process from the whole scenario, is your brain tries to figure out how this happened. I will probably never figure out why or how this happened … When the charges are dropped, that’s kind of only the beginning of kind of getting past it, if that makes sense. So kind of operating through that now. It was definitely a bit of a relief, but not total relief, because that’s something that will always, I think, kind of stick with me. That mug shot, I’m sure, is not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Scheffler also called the arrest “fairly traumatic.” But in cases like this, sometimes all you can do is laugh and try to move on.
