STYLE: TRUE’s Knit IIs – Polishing The Perfect Casual Golf Shoe

My first experience with TRUE linkswear was approximately 2 ½ years ago, and I was quickly impressed by the spikeless golf shoes. Indeed, unlike my more traditional shoes, the TRUE’s genuinely strived to find that perfect balance between comfort and performance by combining a Natural Width Toe Box and Cross-Life Tread pattern. And, in a true testament to TRUE, the Originals remain in my Top 5 most comfortable golf shoes that I’ve owned to date.

2 ½ years later, TRUE has drastically expanded its lineup from the Originals and Outsiders to the ECO Knit, OG Feel, OG Premium, Originals, LUX Knit, LUX Pro, TL-01s and Knit IIs.

The Knit IIs highlight TRUE’s recent commitment to developing a golf shoe that is more comfortable than anything else you own, whether it’s on or off the golf course.

To explain, the Knit IIs weigh only 9.1 ounces. While spikeless shoes generally are lighter than their spiked counterparts, the Knits are noticeably lighter than almost everything out there. How light? Well, about less than half of other, leather mainstream shoes, and about a ½ oz. lighter than the initial iteration of the Knit.

Speaking of which, what else did TRUE change from the original Knit? Well, starting with the foundation, the Knit II WANDERLUX super foam midsole, a proprietary superfoam that offers the best shock absorption in the industry. The next layer up features a redesigned One-Piece TRUEknit Upper with a Sock Fit that’s now water and oil repellent, which is great for when you’re dew sweeping on the course or enjoying a casual morning walk.

As disappointing as 2020 has been, one of the silver linings has been the resurgence in walking rounds. Indeed, in NY, walkers can almost get out on the course, whereas riders are often stuck waiting for a cart (since state rules only allow 1 rider per cart unless you’re from the same household). As a result, I was impressed that I was able to take the Knit IIs out of the eco-friendly, pull string bag and wear them in the car and walk 18 absent any foot paints or cramps.

In fact, my only “complaint” is that the knit-material is incredibly breathable and, as a result, my feet got a little cold while walking around in the mid-50s. That said, I can already foresee that the Knit IIs will become my go-to shoe for June, July and August when the temperature is regularly over 85.

But where I was really impressed was how the Knit IIs, which I tested out in Maui Black, became my perfect, casual shoes. To explain, whether I was going out to run errands, meet up with some friends to watch The Masters or drive to the course for a round, the Knit IIs went perfectly with jeans, sweatpants or golf pants and were comfortable regardless if I was on the street or on the fairways. And with the TRUEknit upper section, my feet never got sweaty or weighed down by a heavier, leather construct.

To wrap things up, the Knit IIs are priced at $140 and come in 3 colors: Maui Black, GOAT Grey and Deep Sea (blue). Regardless which color you go with, the primary color emits a professional, conservative appearance with the white WANDERLUX super foam midsole. The premium finish is further accentuated by the little design features, like the slings on the heel separately marked with “TRUE” and “KNIT” and the subtle TRUE branding on the heel and near the laces.

In light of the perfect, “go anywhere” styling, the KNIT IIs have become my casual, go-to shoe regardless of what I’m doing. In fact, the only thing I need now is summer weather and baked out courses so I can seamlessly transition between walking rounds and days spent walking around on the boardwalk and beachfront bars.
