2016 saw the U.S. Team pull off an unbelievable comeback to secure the Ryder Cup victory on their home turf. And the scene for that moment will now get the opportunity to host another Ryder Cup.

With the Masters coming up in just a few days now, it might have been lost in the news when the PGA of America announced that Hazeltine National will be the host site of the 2028 Ryder Cup after having such success as the host site in 2016. The Minnesota based course has been receiving many new professional golf events since the Ryder Cup but this may be the most important.

There were many reasons that the PGA of America chose to bring the tournament back to Hazeltine so soon, one of which is how fans showed out in force. For every day, there were at least 50,000 spectators that came out to watch the U.S. and European’s finest. The scenery also scored big points with what the PGA of America called perfect weather and a great fall feel for the late September event.

The club is certainly ecstatic to be named the host site again for one of the most historic events, citing the excitement that Hazeltine provided. “That’s the main reason it’s coming back,” Fafinski said. “We’re so excited here because it’s historic. It was an amazing event in 2016, and we’re looking forward to doing the same thing in 2028.”

By earning this honor, Hazeltine will also become the only course in the United States to host the Ryder Cup multiple times. It isn’t the only course to hold the event more than once, however, as several English venues have had multiple Ryder Cups. Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham, and St. Annes have hosted the event twice while The Belfry has held the event four separate occasions, most recently in 2002.

It will be hard to match the excitement that Hazeltine provided for the Ryder Cup in 2016 but it does seem to be a good luck charm. We’ll have several more Ryder Cups to play until then but count us as some of the most excited for Hazeltine in 10 years.
