The USGA is Partnering with Actor Don Cheadle for 2020 U.S. Open
The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced that it will be teaming up with actor Don Cheadle, known for his recent performances as War Machine in the Marvel Avengers and Iron Man movies, in an effort to increase the value of public golf to golfers, courses and communities throughout America.

Cheadle, who is an avid golfer and will also be serving as a U.S. Open Ambassador, has acknowledged the need to grow the game, as the long-term viability of the sport depends on strengthening the health of public golf, while also finding ways for the game to operate in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly manner:
“Growing up, I used to play public courses with my father, and I have some great memories of those rounds. I want to make sure that future generations of golfers are able to have access to the same opportunities that I was able to benefit from.”
With respect to golf course sustainability, the USGA has dedicated considerable efforts to game-changing research and developing innovative technology that have assisted in reducing golf’s use of water, energy and other resources. This is particularly important for public courses, which comprise more than 75 percent of all golf courses in the United States and provide affordable, lifetime recreation for golfers everywhere.

“It’s important to understand the impact that golf courses have on the communities in which they are located,” said Cheadle. “They use natural resources, like water, and are home to many species of wildlife. We need to be mindful about what that means and understand the responsibility of golf courses within the ecosystem. I’m very happy to be working with the USGA going forward.”
Winged Foot Golf Club (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) will host the 120th U.S. Open Championship from June 15th to 21st, 2020.

And for anyone brave enough, local qualifying for the U.S. Open will start in April. Just know that you need to find a way to establish a Handicap Index not exceeding 1.4 in order to be eligible to file an entry. Good luck!
