To cap off another great year of golf, the World Golf Hall of Fame selections and inductions will take place over the next few months. And the committee announced that it has narrowed its list down to finalists for this year’s class.

The committee made up of 20 members that include six current Hall of Famers narrowed their list to 15 players split over four distinct categories with strict qualification minimums. For example, the men’s and women’s categories require that candidates win at least 15 professional events and/or two majors. The veteran category focuses on players who achieved greatness prior to the 1980s and the lifetime achievement category consists of those who have made contributions to the game off the course.

The committee will meet again next week to determine which of these 15 finalists will become members of the World Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Unlike some other sports, the World Golf Hall of Fame doesn’t cap how many inductees there can be. The only requirement is that 75% of the committee approves their entrance into the hall.

There aren’t too many superstars on the ballot this year but there are a lot of names that you’ll recognize. In the men’s category, former major champion Retief Goosen is the most notable candidate. Another familiar face up for induction is former women’s golfer and commentator Dottie Pepper.

As for the veterans category, Jim Ferrier, Catherine Lacoste, and Calvin Peete are the three finalists. And the most notable of the lifetime achievement nominees is Billy Payne, the former club head at Augusta National. Whoever is elected to the group will be honored on June 19th of next year at Pebble Beach before the U.S. Open.

After a crazy season that will certainly be remembered for a long time, it’s good to look back on some of these soon to be legends and their exploits. We wish the best for all the finalists as they are voted on next week.
