Criquet Shirts – A Modern Twist on Iconic Golf Polo Design
Golf apparel has recently become a very become very competitive marketplace. As a result, company’s needs to do something to differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack. Fortunately, Criquet Shirts has found a winning formula by putting a modern twist on an iconic and classic polo design.
Billy Nachman and Hobson Brown founded Criquet back in 2010 with the goal of selling the perfect shirt. Inspired by the classic, relaxed styles worn by Arnold Palmer and JFK, Criquet sought to put a fresh twist on a vintage style. And there’s no doubt that they achieved their goal because regardless of which Criquet you’re looking at, you feel like you’re looking at something you recognize but haven’t seen in a while.
In stark contrast to the mainstream options, who exclusively focus on making a golf shirt for the golf course, Criquet made it a priority to focus on the 19th Hole, life after the golf course, whether that means a beer in the clubhouse, a little backyard BBQ party, or a night out on the town. As a result, Criquet’s shirts look perfect whether you’re planning on teeing it up with a few friends or just looking for a quality shirt to wear while you’re out.
No matter where you’re going, everybody will notice that you’re wearing a Criquet shirt because it’s so different.
Arguably Criquet’s signature design features are the crisp collar and deep cut, 4-button placket. The elongated button-up section by itself differentiates Criquet from every other polo shirt on the market, especially when you go with a shirt color combination that contrasts the collar from the rest of the shirt (for example, the Stretch Player’s Shirt in Nelson Stripe – Coral)
With respect to Criquet’s collar design, each polo has slots for collar stays (with extras provided) that help make sure your collar maintains that fresh point (instead of that worn-out, “bacon collar” look). This often overlooked design feature allows any of Criquet’s polos to seamlessly look perfect in any scenario, whether you’re teeing off at Augusta or enjoying a drink at the local bar.
I was fortunate enough to try out Criquet’s Stretch Players Shirt and the Performance Players Shirt. While both shirts are pima cotton blends, they each feature their unique touches that separate them from each other.
With respect to the Stretch Players Shirt, Criquet started with its Players Shirt, took the premium pima cotton blend, and added a bit of spandex to give the shirt a touch of comfortable stretch. The end result is an incredibly soft shirt that allows you to freely move around during your golf swing without being held back by the material.
As for the Performance Players Shirt, Criquet found a way to make the shirt remain soft despite changing the materials to be more performance-focused.
Made from a pima cotton blend, this shirt wicks moisture away from your skin. A hint of stretch provides greater range of motion on the course. While primarily made of pima cotton, the addition of some polyester and spandex provides some extra stretch while simultaneously helping wick moisture away from your skin. As a result, you’ve got a soft shirt that helps you stay cool in the sun.
In sum, Criquet has taken a vintage design, refreshed it with some updated materials, and made a polo shirt that always looks and feels perfect. Whether you’re catching up with some friends over backyard beers, going out to dinner, or tearing it up on the PGA Senior Tour (a la Rocco Mediate), there’s a Criquet that going to compliment you and the events that lay ahead.
