Following the Footsteps of the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour Makes Big Changes for 2024
Last week, the long-awaited 2024 PGA Tour schedule was released. In addition to the now-typical FedEx Cup playoffs, a series of eight “featured events” were unveiled, with purses of at least $20 million.
Now, the DP World Tour—formerly the European Tour—is following suit with big events and, for the first time, a season-ending playoffs.
Running from November to November, the series refers to itself as “golf’s global Tour,” with a minimum of 44 events in 24 different countries on five continents.

The prize fund for the series is nearly $150 million, which doesn’t count the prize pool for the four majors.
The season will start with five distinct “swings,” running from November 2023 through next August and will span the globe. The winner of each swing will earn a bonus of $200,000.
Winners of each swing will automatically qualify for “The Back Nine” along with other top competitors on the circuit. Of note, this will take place after the FedEx Cup playoffs, so the top 15 non-members in those standings will be eligible to compete.
The fact that the larger events on the schedule are all after the PGA Tour season wraps up hasn’t been lost on some observers.
The DP World Tour has released its full schedule today and it’s very noticeable that there’s no event in Europe until the end of May. There’s also a shocking event clash with the British Masters going up against the Tour Championship on the PGA Tour.

Finally, a two-leg playoff will conclude the season. The first, the Abu Dhabi Championship, moves from January to November and will feature the top 70 in the season-long rankings. After that event, the top 50 will compete in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, to crown the season’s champion.
Along the way, five Rolex Series events will be contested for larger purses: the Hero Dubai Desert Classic (January), Genesis Scottish Open (July), BMW PGA Championship (September), and the two playoff events in November.
