REVIEW: Stay Mobile & Swing Free with ROLL Recovery
Your body—rather than your clubs—may be your most important piece of golf equipment. Indeed, if you’re stiff, weak, or injured, it doesn’t matter you have Rory’s power, Tiger’s skill, and Rahm’s clubs, you’re not gonna play well.

ROLL Recovery looks to be that proverbial 15th club in your bag, and make sure your body is ready for that tournament weekend, once-in-a-lifetime round, or a long boys’ weekend.
ROLL Recovery Founder Jeremy Nelson said:
“Our mission was to create exceptionally designed, functional tools, unlike anything on the market – and mobile enough to use anywhere. This is something we needed while traveling to international races.”
With the success of the R8 Deep Tissue Massager, ROLL Recovery wanted to explore how else it could provide premium recovery products to athletes who didn’t have have masseuses and ice bathes at their disposal.
From ROLL Recovery’s lineup, the R4 Body Roller is what immediately caught my attention. You see, a quality foam roller is hard to find because they’re often made with cheap foam that compresses and, as a result, can provide the same resistance you need to really loosen up everything from your spine to your quads and glutes.
The R4 does not suffer from this. Instead, ROLL Recovery designed the R4 with a patterned surface texture and material density that doesn’t compress, so you can target specific muscle groups.
At the center of the R4 is a channel that looks to help with spine and neck alignment and also alleviate tightness in your IT band and achilles. You can then work out from the center of the R4 to attack other things, like your glutes and spinal rotation—both of which are super important to your golf swing to make sure your lower body is working for you (rather than against you) and that you can make a complete backswing for power.
What I found most beneficial about the R4 was (1) it travels incredibly well and (2) how much more utility you get out of it than a normal foam roller.
As you can see from the picture above, most foam rollers are not travel-friendly. They’re often too big to even fit in a full-size suitcase, and even if they did, they’d take up ~⅓ of the storage space. The R4, meanwhile, could fit in a carry-on suitcase, making it perfect if you need to bring it with you for that vacation round or just keep it in your car’s trunk or locker at the club.
Moreover, the utility of the R4 means I can carry less stuff with me. To explain, I have recently gotten into a habit of always traveling with a lacrosse ball to help stretch and loosen up before important rounds. The R4’s center ridge and textured foam material eliminate the need to carry the lacrosse ball and, instead, allow me to keep one extra piece of recovery equipment with me.

Alongside the R4 are the R1 percussion massager and R3 orthopedic foot roller. Given that I hedge that nearly 90% of us spend most of our time in a sedentary position, ROLL Recovery has a lineup of great tools that can help make sure you’re pain-free, loose, and ready for lessons, rounds of golf, or just everyday life.
Again, a golfer (or any athlete) is only as good as his tools, with the body being the most important. Rather than being sidelined with injuries or compromising the first few holes by not being fully stretched and loosened up, ROLL Recovery looks to provide you with the tools you need to maximize your performance. The R4 stands out for me as one of their most golfer-friendly products. Due to its creative, unique design, it can help make sure that your legs, hips, and back are all ready to give their most during your next round.
