Martin Golf Shirts – A Quest for Perfection
Style, grace, comfort, and breatheability. It’s what all of us men desire in a golf shirt. You want material that feels good, and breed’s confidence out there on the links.
Martin Golf Shirts launched their operation in the spring of 2012 under the guidance of long time apparel guru Rick Martin. Martin was quite successful at his previous and popular apparel line of Fairway and Greene, which he sold in 2004.
Martin golf shirts are soft and comfortable thanks in part to their pima cotton construction. These Lisle garments are a type of fabric that has been processed to give it a smooth finish. The process burns off lint and threads as well as fiber ends, leaving a smooth edge. And what’s best about these shirts is that they can be washed over and over and still come out looking like new.
The sizes run a little larger than your standard golf shirt, but that’s the difference here- a relaxed fit for a better game. Here’s what founder Rick Martin has to say…
“Our desire to develop a superior 100% cotton lisle golf shirt has never been about resting comfortably on a result. Rather, it’s always been an unending pursuit of the perfect shirt. Today’s technology has allowed us to identify and source the optimum cotton yarn. It begins with a long-staple Pima cotton fiber—consistent in its longer length—, which is spun into our unique yarn and subjected to a refined singeing process. This brings it to life in our fabrics and collars, which we knit at a level more demanding than industry standards. And most importantly, our unique, proprietary finishing processes impart a lasting luster and hand feel to every shirt we produce. Performance and stability in a 100% Pima cotton golf shirt is guaranteed every time. Our constant quest for perfection is as Timeless As The Game.”
Martin Golf Apparel cannot be found in at major retailers or even online. Their apparel is dedicated to private golf club pro shops and their focus is on the PGA Professionals responsible for operating them. “They are one of the last [apparel] specialty stores left on earth. The rest have a department store mentality focusing on trends and what the other guy is doing.” Martin wants the people responsible for selling his product to really know and understand his line so they can communicate the same to consumers. “We are not about price.”
I think it was Billy Crystal who stated on a Saturday Night Live many years ago, “that it is better to look good than to feel good.” The great thing about these Martin shirts is that you get look good and feel good at the same time, which in essence can only help your game.
